Brad rang the bell for the firemen. Two came to the door and said that they would love to take Colton's food. They thought he just had a little to donate. We surprised them by filling their entire garbage can and having bags and bags overflow on the ground. They said that it is the most food anyone has ever dropped off. They were so proud of Colton and what he did at the age of 5 that they invited him in to see the fire trucks and have a picture taken with them and the firetrucks.
Here is Colton unloading all his food. It was raining really hard so we had everything packed away in Daddy's big work bins.
Here is our proud little man with all the food that he collected. Its hard to see from the picture, but it fills the large garbage can and there are bags all around the can filled with food that did not fit.
The firemen took picture of our whole family. Adalynn was being shy.
And here is the best picture of all, Colton with the firemen.
What an awesome experience for Colton. He got to learn that he is very lucky to have yummy food to eat for his meals, that other people are not as lucky, he got to learn that he can make a difference to other people, and we threw some math skills in there when he took the $60 that he got to buy food at the grocery store. I helped him determine how much he could buy and then he had to pay himself. Today I was so proud of Colton. Rather than buying food for him to donate to school we taught him how a bit of work on his part can really pay off.
Watch out for us at your door next year. Colton says that he is going to fill 3 garbage cans!
